Switchfoot “Nothing is Sound” Listening Review

September 30, 2007

Hey picked this cd up at my local library last week and am now giving it a good listen. I had heard of these guys before but didn’t know much about them. For one, I had no clue Switchfoot is an Alternative Christian rock band. From the sound of their music and listening to the album while I update my blogs tonight I sure didn’t get that feeling.  Not that that really matters!

Out of the 12 tracks on the CD I think I’m at about an 90% approval rating on the songs. Of course I keep listening to a few of the same songs over and over to help drown out the poor  pathetic just down-right awful performace of the Philadelphia Eagles tonight which I have playing in the background.

Switchfoot - Nothing is SoundSo back to the reviewing. Some of the best songs on the album have to be:

Happy Is A Yuppie Word - cool tune
The Setting Sun - all around good beat brings this song to the top of my list, vocal harmonizing, and the chorus is ‘catchy’
Stars - I think it’s the guitar lick that catches my attention! I’ll tag this as my #1!
We Are One Tonight - one of the fastest paced songs, good guitar and vocals

Well if you are up for an all around good CD to add to your collection I would check out this one!

Should the US Use This Tactic on Drug Smugglers?

September 30, 2007

WOW! What a show of force and determination on the part of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)! Crap. When then say they are going to “go all the way” to stop drug smugglers I guess they mean it!

This could probably curb some of the of drug smuggling into the USA, agree?!

Saw this on LiveLeak.com Royal Austrlian Air Force F1-11 sinks North Korean Drug Ship

After being caught trying to smuggle drugs into Australia the Pong Su was sunk by two 2000-pound (900 kg) laser-guided bombs dropped from an RAAF F-111 aircraft. The deliberate destruction of the freighter was said to deliver a strong message to international drug smuggling rings that the Australian Federal Government would take all measures necessary to stop illegal drug importation.

Secrets (originals) : Pleasing Piano

September 23, 2007

Allison Crowe :: SecretsWonderful music! I’m just getting back to using Jamendo to find some fresh music and I came across Allison Crowe and found her music to be something I’ve been searching for for a long time! From the first song, How Long, I kept listening to the songs as I downloaded the entire album. I’ll be checking out the rest of her albums on Jamendo tonight!

For those reading this on my blog, Allison Crowe is a pop, gospel, blues pianist with a fresh voice that to me is uplifting and new! As I mentioned above, from the first 20 seconds of How Long I knew I would enjoy this album. First instincts are always right!

So check out her collection on Jamendo.com or her web site (www.allisoncrowe.com).

Rittenhouse Square CD Release: Neall Alcott

September 23, 2007

Ok folks, here is a CD Released by a friend and co-worker of mine, Neall Alcott. Please if you have the time, stick on the headphones at work and listen to a few of his tracks. If you enjoy the Beatles, XTC, and other Brit-pop artists you’ll probably find yourself listening to this album with delight.

Neall Alcott iTunes

Neall gave me a pre-released (hmmm, and unsigned) copy of his CD a few months ago to give some feedback.

I really enjoyed it…from what I like to call the “summery sound” of State of Mind to the “highway driving hit” When The World Comes Down On You there is a little bit of something for you to enjoy, especially if you are hunting for a new artist to add to your library.

So here is a plug for Neall and his blog site, www.neallalcott.com, like I mentioned, when you have a minute go take a sneak peak at Rittenhouse Square.

Fly Ealges Fly! But PLEASE No More Throw Back Jerseys!

September 23, 2007

McNabb (AP Photo/Rusty Kennedy)Well whatta ya know!? The Birds pulled off a win! But wait…do you think it was the throw back jerseys that helped out? Oh God Help Us if that’s the case! I’m not a fan of any throw back jerseys and after having to see the powder blue and yellow jerseys today, blech!!

Guess Andy Reid pulled out the oil can and greased up the rusty old tin man before game time! Thanks Andy!!

But way to go guys! Seems like the team was firing on all pistons today. Earlier this week all the news stories focusing on McNabb and poor team stats should probably be nullified on Monday morning talk radio with callers/listening hopping back on the Eagles Bandwagon and cheering on their Superbowl Bound team! C’mon, you KNOW that is what many people are going to say after a 56-21 trounching of a half-decent Detroit team!

Donovan was stellar in today’s game, shattering his combined first two weeks of stats and at one point completing 18 straight passes!

McNabb’s Stats

Prev Weeks This Week
Comp % 54.4 80.8
Pass Yds 424 381
TDs 1 4
Passer Rating 68.8 158.3

More good news…we got to see Rookie Kevin Kolb have a few reps in the 4th quarter. I think that is a good thing. Let’s get him some game experience and see how he shakes out and get used to the rythym. Who knows what will happen in the next few weeks. Let’s just hope McNabb stays healthy and greased up, Westbrook continues to be a mutli-level attack machine, Curtis and the other receivers continue to catch passes and the defense’s secondary can get patched up!

Game notes From ESPN.com

Curtis surpassed his career-best 105 yards receiving in just the first quarter, getting 132. … The teams had 63 points and 763 total yards in the first half. … Eagles LT William Thomas has a mild knee strain and All-Pro G Shawn Andrews briefly left after getting poked in the eye. … Trent Cole had three of Philly’s sacks.

Wegmans Needs Your Voice to Help Sell Beer & Wine at PA Stores

September 17, 2007

Wegmans Consumer Choice: Let Your Voice Be Heard to Allow Beer & Wine Sales in PAFor all of you that shop the Wegmans in Downingtown (or other PA stores) please read the following and respond with your voice/email to our State Legislators to allow Wegmans the ability to sell beer & wine by the glass to shoppers in the Market Cafe.

A blurb from a Wegmans email that was sent to me:

Shoppers would be able to purchase up to two six-packs of beer to take home, or wine and beer by the glass as a complement to a meal. This is not a new concept; the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has been licensing restaurants within grocery stores for decades.

Anyway, this guy wrote a decent article about how to quickly create your first FaceBook app. Check it out. I’m in the process of trying to develop an application. When I’m done I’m sure I’ll blog about it!
